Would you like to have goal setting be much more motivating and fun?
– a process of self-discovery and yet have your goals meet?
For many of you, unfortunately goal setting rings an unwelcome bell of useless New Year resolutions and you simply decided that you don’t want to go there.
I get it. I really do.
But I’m also here to tell you that goals setting – when its done in an inspiring way – can be so exciting that you just cannot wait to take the first action steps towards the fulfilment of your goals.

Although it does have a place, I’m definitely not talking about the SMART model.
Rather I’m all about a holistic approach to goal setting.
This is a process that INCLUDES the personal development and progress that you naturally get to experience, as a result of goal setting.
Once you begin to see goal setting as a process of self-discovery and personal development, as well as having your goals met, you will light up and have so much more fun with it all.
I’ve been truly passionate about goal setting myself for more than 2 decades now
It is something that I really look forward to, especially in the beginning of a New Year, which always fills me with excitement and bright thoughts for the future.
So today I want to give you my best practices for goal setting.
7 tips for Holistic Goal Setting
- Clarity:
First you need to gain clarity on your bigger vision, what is it that you want and why do you want it? - Imagination:
Now imagine what it would FEEL like to have what you want?– Who would you need to be to have that?
– Perhaps you could find a great role model? -
Visual language:
When you draw your vision and goals it becomes so much more meaningful and memorable – remember, even simple, childish illustrations will do the job.
You don’t need to be perfect at drawing for this technique to work.
-
Break it down:
You probably would agree that the best way to eat an elephant is one bite size at a time.
The same goes with your goals. Break down your vision into actionable goals.
Then ask yourself what you need to do next, to get to where you want to be?
Remember, even very small action steps can lead to huge results.
-
Time Frame:
It’s helpful to set up a time frame and hold yourself accountable towards your goal.
Begin with the end in mind.
Then ask yourself when you would like your vision to come through?
-
PLAN:
Make a FOCUS-plan that feels inspiring to you.
Then break it down into months, weeks and daily, doable action steps.
In other words, plan your work and work your plan.
It’s really is that simple.
-
Support
Seek the support that you need.
Studies show that we are able to reach our goals about 6 times faster, when we are held accountable towards our goal.
Don’t be shy. Reach out and get yourself an accountability partner or mentor to help hold your vision.
Although goal setting can be quite serious business, you definitely also need to add some fun to the process and have someone to help celebrate your progress along the way.
